Acer Aspire V3-772G-9829 Review

The Good: The mighty Intel Core i7 2.2 GHz CPU is well known for its all-round performance and versatility. The decent graphics card (GeForce GT 750M) lights up the full HD 17.3 inch screen.

The Bad: The graphics card (GeForce GT 750M) is no match for the graphics card (Radeon HD 8970M) of our number one: the MSI GX60. The difference will be playing hi-end games such as Battlefield 4 on medium to high settings, versus ultra settings on the MSI GX60.

The Verdict: The Acer Aspire V3 in the most affordable option in our comparison, bringing great value-for-money to the table. Even though is sacrifices some performance to achieve this price, it is a great option for gamers who are on a budget.

Why is the Acer one of the top gaming laptops under $1000?

The Acer has a unique value proposition in our comparison of the best gaming laptops under 1000 dollars. Where the other laptops strive to get the maximum performance per dollar, the Acer strives to offer an economical option to gaming. Carrying the Intel Core i7 2.2 GHz CPU, the Acer is plenty powerful and offers good versatility and multimedia performance. Sacrificing some gaming performance with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M is sadly also part of the lower price.

Features

The Acer Aspire V3 is a sleek and good looking machine. Somewhat to the contrary of our number 1, the MSI GX60, the Acer wouldn’t be out of place in your average professional setting. Something proven by the colour name of the laptop: Sophisticated Black. Sporting a Full HD (1920 x 1080) 17.3 inch screen, it is definitely not a small laptop, measuring a total of 16.3 by 10.8 by 1.4 inches and weighing in at 7.7 pounds.

Having 1 terabyte, or 1000 GB, of hard drive space able to be accessed by its 2x 2.0 USB, 2x 3.0 USB ports or 1x HDMI port, means you won’t have any storage troubles. The 6-cel lithium Ion battery is good, but at 2.5 hours of battery life it is obvious that the 17.3 inch screen is taking its tole in power usage. To top up the features on the Acer, there is a bluetooth 4.0 connection, 8x DVD Super Drive and two built-in stereo speakers able to produce Dolby Home Theatre quality sound.

The technology on the Acer is plentiful. Having the quad core 2.2 GHz i7 means you can be sure to have sufficient performance outside of gaming as well. Whether you’re interested in video, audio or photo editing, the i7 should be able to support anything you desire. The graphics on the Acer is somewhat of a troublesome story. Even though the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M is a great graphics card, it is in the light of the competition that it loses some of its initial charm. Scoring a meagre 6.5 out of 10 on the CPU-Boss independent benchmark tests, means it’s a full 3.2 points behind on the 8.7 score of the AMD Radeon HD 8970M of the MSI GX60.

What games will you be able to play?

The below stated games are all playable on ‘ultra’ settings with a frame rate of at least 30 per second.

F1 2013, Fifa 14, Dota 2, Dead Space 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Dishonored, Counter-Strike: Go, Diablo III, Mass Effect 3, CoD: Modern Warfare 3.

Although a fair amount of games are able to be played on ultra settings. With the Acer, you should be looking towards the games to be played on medium and high, which will be significantly more. Titles in this list include:

The Elder Scrolls Online, Titanfall, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4 and much more.

To Conclude:

The Acer Aspire V3 is a great all-round machine looking like an Italian business man. The performance is very decent, especially for the price, but not more than that. Compared to the best gaming laptops under 1000 dollars 2018, the MSI GX60, it’s the graphics card of the Acer that lets it down most. That being said, the Acer offers a great value proposition for less than 900 dollars allowing you to play most games on medium to high.
