The Good: A powerful CPU/GPU combo and a decent amount of storage space, ergonomic and slim design, sharp display.
The Bad: Low battery life that might limit its use, low maximum display brightness. Bloatware.
The Verdict: It's a tablet that has its benefits and flaws. The performance is outstanding for the price range, and it outweighs most of the flaws we could find.
For a budget device, ASUS Zenpad S 8.0 can hold its ground against more expensive competitors. It has its own flaws, and you can definitely see where they sacrificed quality for lower price, however when you weigh everything out, the good outweighs the bad. It's a device that can give you the taste of premium tablets at a much lower price.
ASUS Zenpad S8.0 is a very sleek device that sports an ergonomic design, and very attractive finish. It's not on par with high-end aluminum designs available, but it's far from bad. Zenpad is powered by the Intel Atom Z2560, 1.3 GHz Quad-Core CPU that offers generous amounts of performance. When it comes to graphics, ASUS Zenpad S8.0 comes with a PowerVR Series 6 G6430 GPU, enabling it to run even the more demanding Android games.
The 2048x1536 8" IPS display is very sharp with decent colors, however it has lower maximum brightness which can be an issue outside during a sunny day. ASUS Zenpad S8.0 comes with 2GBs of RAM and 32GBs of internal storage. Considering the hardware specs and the fact this device runs the Android 5.0 Lollipop, you can expect a smooth and reliable performance as long as you don't overload the CPU by running more than several resource-heavy apps at the same time.
Main downside of this tablet is its battery. You get a 4000 mAh unit that can withstand up to 6 hours of heavy use, which is below standard. The USB connector used for charging is the USB-C, which will soon become standard in the industry. However, this means that you won't be able to use any charger to charge this tablet.
ASUS Zenpad S8.0 is a well balanced tablet that has enough performance potential and storage space to make it great for just about any kind of application. However the battery life is well below the the average. If this is not an issue for you, ASUS Zenpad S8.0 is definitely something you should check out.
