The Good: F-Secure is widely used on a corporate level, but this doesn’t detract from it being supportive of the home market. Extremely streamlined and incredibly low resource usage makes it non-invasive and so it doesn’t detract from computer usability. Quick virus scans and powerful detection make F-Secure a potent program.
The Bad: Very limited support for browsing and online protection. Not at all recommended for people looking for such protection.
The Verdict: A better-than-average ability to pick and remove viruses and malware and an extremely low-resource running, make this a program great for people looking to have a quick and easy antivirus security program. Greatly lacking in online browsing protection, however, with no social media or link protection.
F-Secure is one of the most streamlined antivirus programs. It utilises a minimum of computer resources, making it extremely useful for laptops as it will have a minimal power consumption increase, and it is great for people who use resource-intensive programs and/or do not what their computer slowed down by their security software.
F-Secure has a simple but useful interface, making it easy to do all major tasks without a learning curve, such as scheduling scans or changing any other settings you might want to. An attractive main dashboard allows immediate display of the essential areas of any antivirus software, such as scan results and manual updates, and the taskbar icon provides all the details in a compact way that you might need to be aware of.
F-Secure has a great ability to scan for viruses and malware, and automatic scans and updates ensure that you are constantly protected against all the major threats. Particularly useful, especially for those who regularly download or install new programs, is the ability to right-click a file and get an immediate scan done, taking the effort out of navigating to files or folders individually through an antivirus program. This is a welcome and productive feature.
There is great customer support available, through three avenues: Telephone, e-mail, or online live chat.
F-Secure is, however, severely lacking in comparison to the best internet security with regards to browsing – It contains no ability to detect harmful links, scan through social media, or pick up on online threats. F-Secure as a company does provide an Internet Security package that does these things plus includes the antivirus software, but this will cost more.
F-Secure as a virus scanner is a great program useful for all levels of experience. An attractive, easy-to-use, and resource-light nature make it a suitable resource for anybody wanting pure antivirus security without any extra features, and F-Secure excels at this.
